Something to Think About
Have you read Tuck Everlasting? It is a novel written by Natalie Babbitt. For those of you who have read this novel, you know that this book brings up many interesting points to think about. The obvious question this book brings up is if eternal life on earth is a gift, or a curse. Yet something that interested me was when Winnie had poured the bottle of water, from the spring, on the toad because she wanted him to be “safe”. This bottle of water was given to her by Jesse Tuck, who had asked her to drink it when she was 17, so that they could both live forever, together. Then why would she pour it on the toad? She said she cared for that animal and was scared it would get eaten by the dog. To me it seemed more like a way to get raid of the water though. Maybe Winnie didn’t want eternal life on earth after hearing what the other Tucks had to say. So she poured the water on the toad, so she wouldn’t be able to drink it when she was 17. This way, she probably felt less guilty about letting Jesse down. That was something that made me wonder, it was surely a point in the book that is something to think about.
